模板:Infobox Pro athlete Josh Powell (born December 5 1983) is a professional basketball player in the NBA. He currently plays for the Dallas Mavericks.

Early life[]

After playing two years at North Carolina State University, Josh Powell was not selected in the 2005 NBA Draft, but signed a free agent contract with the Dallas Mavericks. Josh Powell played at NC State and averaged 12.4 ppg and 5.2 rpg in his sophomore year (2002-2003). After college, he played in the European leagues before declaring for the NBA Draft in 2005 where he went undrafted. However, he worked out for numerous teams and was eventually signed by the Mavericks who were looking for a power forward to develop behind star Dirk Nowitzki.

NBA career[]

At the beginning of the 2005-2006 season, Powell was in the D-League and put up solid numbers until he was called up to the NBA, where he played only in "trash time," when the game had already been practically decided. But, after injuries to starting small forward Josh Howard and backup power forward Keith Van Horn, he began get more time when Nowitzki was in need of rest.

Player profile[]

While no breakout rookie, Josh Powell shows great promise in a solid jumpshot and an incredible leaping ability. He is quick, can rebound effectively and block an occasional shot. His offensive game is either open jumpshots or a layup, but he will also catch the alley-oop pass for a dunk. He is also a solid defender.
